Katz eye - are they worth it?

There is another, far cheaper, option for getting better focusing ability: the magnifying eyepiece. I put one on my K10D after seeing the Katz-Eye prices. The new eyepiece helps.

I'd try this first based on the risk/reward factor.

That's pretty cool, thanks for sharing the link! I may have try that one myself. However, that's about what I paid for my cheap Chinese split-screen viewfinder, and it works, as I've said, great. Wonder if I could use both this magnifier and the split-screen together? Hmmm.

I have the Katz-eye and the Haoda for my 300D and 20D respectively. Both work very well up to f5.6 lenses. The Katzeye is a bit brighter, but otherwise both are very similar.

I believe the cheaper ones are focusing screens originally built for Minolta X series that are cut down for DSLR sizes.

After much humming and haarrring I have now ordered the cheapie Chinese screen and will give that a whirl when it finally arrives.

If it does not make me happy I think I will go for the Katz eye with the full works, Optibrite and crop lines for 10x8 and 7x5

I have that too, and it's good - but not great for fast lenses wide open. That *plus* the Katz Eye screen just about makes my K100D a pleasure to use with manual focus lenses.
