Between 1931 and 1936, Polish reporter and photographer Kazimierz Nowak travelled across Africa, from Libya to Cape Agulhas and back to Algeria. He travelled absolutely alone, by bicycle, on horse and by boat, covering a distance of 40,000 km. The journey was not only his way to earn his living as a correspondent of Polish newpapers, but also the realization of his dreams. He was an opponent to colonialism and a passionate of Africa.
In 1932, while staying in Egypt, he received a parcel from his wife containing, among other things, a Contax I rangefinder. According to his letters, he was delighted with the camera and the capabilities of 35mm film. It enabled him to take over 10,000 photographs of wild and unspoiled Africa. And, IMHO, he was a true master of travel reportage.
So, If you are tired with reading about HCB and Robert Capa over and over again 😉, I encourage you to read a book entitled "Across The Dark Continent: Bicycle Diaries from Africa 1931-1936" (ISBN 978-83-65419-82-8). It contains beautiful photographs and a great tale of incredible journey.
