Canada, eh.
I just deleted my "ignore list" thread. It was created in frustration, but added to the negativity. Let's all of us try to maintain a positive atmosphere here. I for one will re-pledge to not enter into contentious threads and to ignore trolls. I urge others to do the same.

Best wishes to everyone this holiday season!

Thankfully, I have not found anyone here offending enough here to ignore. Wish that I had that function over on the Leica list though! I would frequent there much more often. That having been said, I am so appreciative of those who remain patient with me. I kind of got off to a wrong start here after one of my photo's was banned and then I started a thread on Censorship. Allot of people sent me PM's and explained "The Rules" here.

It is always difficult to convey the intent of the person who posts within a forum. Especially for those who are not professional writers and lack the skills for expressing themselves in written form. Add to that differences in language and it is amazing we get along at all.

I do not like it when there are personnal attacks for things that are trivial at best and have no bearing on the original post. If we decide to ignore someone then that is a sad thing as well. Better then reading allot of meaningless crap though.

Better to handle differences via a PM rather then muddy things up here.

Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah/Happy Holidays to all.

These threads are becoming a weekly thing 'round here, just ignore them and move on. A troll can't argue with someone who won't argue back.

Let's focus on rangefinders and screw the trolls...er..uh...ignore 'em.

Leica owners are snobs. 😛 😀 🙄

yes we are.. case n' point - from the EuroTrip script:

- Is that a new camera?

- It isn't just a camera, this is a Leica M7. Uber-sensitive exposure settings, legendary cloth shutter system.

- Let me see that thing.

- No can do. I spent four years tutoring lacrosse players to pay for it, so nobody touches my camera but me.

- It's like your wiener.

- No, it's not...

I always seem to miss these fights. Can somebody start a new one while I wait around?

I missed it too! These things always happen when I'm asleep. And I've tried to stay up as late as possible! Them from across the pond get all the fun. 😡 😉

Most trolling threads can be answered in a civil way. I think there is a lot of fear and paranoia generated by the possible demise of film. People tend to get very touchy around the 'D' word. I myself have wrestled with the possibility that it is simply not worth spending serious money on film gear anymore, but rather to start looking at digital equipment as I am seriously considering going back into pro photography in some modest way. The world is moving on and either we move with it or throw rocks from the sidelines. I know this is tough to do for people with acres of Leica glass but I think all of us should come to terms with the very real possibility that film is going the same way as betamax and eight track tape. An affordable digital RF may help to ease the pain but I'm not holding my breath...

Todd, that seems an eminently sensible suggestion. It does however bring back memories of AOL, where a public suggestion to ignore another member is considered a conspiracy to harass them, and a rules violation in itself. Yes, the rules force the monitors to be more concerned about hurting the feelings of the troll than in the civility of the discourse!

Does that mean you're reading my posts again, Frank ? 😀 😀

And best wishes to you too!

Interesting suggestion: people who deny that film is doomed may simply be paranoid and out of touch with reality. Even more pathetic are those who have embraced the digital future but feel the need to artificially simulate film grain in their digital images (grain being one of the less attractive features of the outmoded technology which they claim to have abandoned). Then there are the backsliders who, after completely accepting the inevitable reality, sell their shiny new DSLRs or DRFFs and revert back to the unsavory realm of paranoia and denial. Some human beings are capable of an astounding degree of perversity. It's rather sad. <carefully disengaging tongue from cheek. 😎 >
