One of the most respectful dealers I have run across just informed me he has plenty of black M8's in stock ready for delivery. His number is 561-833-6968 and can be reached during business hours east coast time

Good luck. I have called him a few times and he has never been in. Left messages and he has never called back.

B&H had two separate batches of them in the past week that sold out in a matter of hours. No idea how many were in each batch. What I think may have happened is that way back last year a lot of people put orders in at a small number of dealers (in the USA), making their lists longer than other dealers'. If Leica isn't apportioning them according to who has the longest list, some dealers may still have waiting lists while other dealers don't. I only have spoken to one dealer, who is not one of the "internet favorites", and he told me quite some time ago that most of his waiting list cancelled by the time official word came from Leica of the IR filter requirement. He told me last week there were a few who decided recently to accept the filters and buy their M8 after all, but are now holding off now due to all the reports of DOA's. My dealer calls the M8 "the worst German wreck since the Hindenburg" he's so steamed...but hey, you know what they say about counting your chickens before they're hatched.

Ken is a great guy, but can be difficult to reach. I got ahold of him in Palm Beach on vacation and he sent me filters from there. Must be nice! Keep trying, he'll get back with you.

A dealer friend of mine in Austin has expressed similar feelings -- but not quite so creatively...

Every week that goes by there are more and more Meight's in stock, some dealers sell, others do not right away. WL are gone. Sooner then Leica expected, the demand is gone.

So many are holding out for a digital M that deserves a number...

Ken lives in Florida. And it has been 3 months since I called.

It must be a very fast moving train wreck as they don't seem to stay in stock very long anywhere.

The last batch at B&H stayed in stock for around 36 hours, about 12 times longer than the last time they had them. And the Hindenburg was a dirigible, not a train :D

As I remember the Hindenburg wreck was in the USA as well...

Ben this is the abusive TROLLISH BEHAVIOUR many others and I are talking about.

Oh good grief. The Hindenburg crashed near Lakehurst, NJ. It was a fitting parry to Jaap's thrust.

I twice anounced last week on the Leica User Forum that my dealer in Madison had a black M8 in stock and listed the phone number. That was 5 days ago and they didn't receive a single call about it. I'm thinking the market has been fairly satisfied by now. A month ago that camera would have been sold in an hour.

I just spoke with him. Seems nobody left a message.

It definitely was his voice on the answering machine. I left a message with him about 3 months ago after I PM'd you for Ken's number. I was calling him for UV/IR filters which you said he had in stock. I know his voice because I worked in the same shop he did many years ago, Camera Barn. I use to frequent his shop on 34th Street across from the Empire State Building.
