Ken Rockwell

Pretty good pictures. I am not going to go and count the aperture blades in my Tele-Elmar. There really do seem to be 12 rays from his sun. Interesting.

Well, what else to say about KR? Nice color pics, though...

One kicker is the choice of captions for two images of of "Wall, Bodie, California." The first one, taken with an M9/21 f/2.8 Elmarit M-ASPH is referred to as "digital capture." The second shot, taken with an M3/21 f/4 SA, is referred to as an "actual photograph." Not that I'm working my pretty little head into a tizzy over it, but is Rockwell baiting us here, or...?

Off to scan a bit more film...

KR, love him, laothe him, indifferent to him is deliberately antagonistic with his writing, it gets you going back for more 🙂 I'd take whatever he says with a pinch of salt, and I'm a complete film junky. This week's KR under the skin comment of his was the M2 being a poor man's Leica, but just have to take that as Rockwell doing what he does best.

Actually come to think of it, he's right there because I ain't rich 😀

Oh, if I can say one thing confidently: he has no eye whatsoever for web design: http://www.kenrockwell.com/index/christmas-2008.htm - Hmmm, I did websites like that in 1995. The only trouble it's now 15 years on from then 🙂

Long time ago, someone told me about an idea for a television show: you'd have a standup comedian with a remote controlled noose around his neck, and the audience have the electronic voting boxes for it. Whenever the audience gets tired of the same old groaners, they can dial in the noose to tighten a bit..

The comedian, who'll grow more and more nervous that the audience will get fed up with him at a certain point, has no other option than to keep getting funnier and funnier over time.. Obviously you can imagine that there'll be a breaking point where funny turns into weird..

How come this post makes me think of that hypothetical tv show?

Methinks anyone taking that 12-rays-of-the-sun line literally is probably wearing a pocket protector. 🙄

Rockwell's stance on film versus digital does seem a bit schizoid. But digs at digital are commonplace on his site. Doesn't that happen at some other photo site, too? Hmm...

I agree that his site really needs a redesign. Looks like he built it in Word umpteen years ago. But whatever works for him.
