I am trying to decide on a polarizer for my Mamiya 7 with the 80mm lens. I would also like to be able to use the polarizer on a lens with a 67mm filter size as well. A 67mm Kenko polarizer with numbers around the circumference would be mounted on the lens (step up ring) and the degree of polarization set by looking through a smaller 'finder' polarizer with the same numbering system (http://www.robertwhite.co.uk/products.asp?PT_ID=284). This sounds like it would work well. Here is the question:

Is the quality of the Kenko polarizer on par with a Heliopan or B+W polarizer? I could purchase a Heliopan or B+W and get a cheap smaller polarizer to use as a 'finder' polarizer and index them appropriately.

use the mamiya polarizer in reverse with a 67 to 77 step up ring. the mamiya polarizer has 77 front threads.

not really sure if it is linear or circular. try just holding it in from of your other camera and see if it can still focus.

Does it really matter if it's linear or circular? After all you're not autofocusing or measuring through the lens with the Mamiya.

I was hoping to use the same polarizer on my D90 that's why I was hoping that the Mamiya polarizer was circular but it seems unlikely. It's a moot point though, I just ordered a 58mm Moose warming polarizer from 2filter.com at a nice price.
