Don't shoot the messenger, just posting this in case there is someone who might find this useful. It answers two needs for me in a way I couldn't cobble together quite as easily on my own. Instant access. Non-bulky bag for a small camera. Camera on a strap that doesn't sway around when I walk. Some protection for when I bang camera into outcropping wall as I walk by. Which I've done more than once. (Perhaps I should get new glasses.)
Wait, that's four needs. And it's not made of pleather.
Questions about the utility or necessity of such a solution are to be expected, so FWIW only.

Domke F-5XB. It can be carried on the belt or with the shoulder strap. It hugs the body, has a velcro closure (and a zipper if you want to use it). Enough room for a camera, two more small lenses, lens cloth and blower, cell phone. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Thanks, Larry
It's always nice to see new bag ideas.
I think that quality and fashion would be the big attraction to this one.
As you say "to each his own". I have 4 small-ish Domke's that work for me and the moods I get into. My 5-Xa has been seriously modified :) to do what I wanted it to do at the time. Similar (functionally) to this bag idea.

My gripe about the Domke F5 is always having to drag your camera past that damned zipper. A belt/shoulder bag with a flap like the F6 would be more desirable to me.

It looks like an A&A ACAM-78 but with a belt loop*and magnetic closure rather than an elastic closure. The Oberwerth is a good deal at $79 for the early bird special; I use my ACAM-76 (the nylon version of the above) a lot: It's a great size and shape bag for protecting my M-D when I just want to carry it with one lens and nothing else. The ACAM-76 sells for $99 from B&H Photo.

I nipped the last Early Bird Special...

How about the thinktank retrospective 5? I upgraded from my f5xb for that very reason.

Huss,

I've got one for every person on my Christmas list!

Water resistant too! No more worries about beer dribbles.
