Hello!
Is there any danger for my precious kiev 4a if I change aperture with my left hand while the right one holds focusing ring ot top and prevents the lens from turning (focusing).
The click stops are not soft and I'm little concerned.

Well I naturally palm the baseplate and hold the lens ring between thumb and 3rd finger, for use and set the aperature with right hand as needed, but it wont damage anything but your third finger if you hold the focus wheel and click the aperature stops.

The kiev is rugged

Using the focusing small wheel as a focus lock is to my opinion a very intelligent additional use for the wheel.

But using the wheel to enable f/stop change without changing focus, means that you first focus and change aperture afterwards: why not trying to reverse the sequence ?

Cheers,
Ruben

I just want to use one hand for the operation. I can't rotate aperture ring with the left hand withhout turning na whole lens as you know. Maybe this is the purpose of the lenses without click stops for the rangefinders? So when I want focus - the wheel is free. When it is time for the aperture I block the lens with the wheel.

I would remove the lens from the camera, put the caps on, extend the lens
all the way out, and spray just a bit of DRY contact spray [NOT the kind
with light oil] into the f stop ring. Then I would turn it back and forth, from
f2 to 22, etc., 50 times. Rest assured, it will loosen up. mike
