Kiev 4,Film Counter query.

I've just bought a really nice Kiev 4,Type 2,and although I have used one in the past,My memory doesn't serve me too well as regards the film counter.I can't recall whether the film counter automatically registers when the film is wound on,or if it needs to be moved on manually after each frame.

This particular camera is in the latter category and needs to be moved on manually,although everything alse is in great order,with the exception of the delayed action setting which fails to trip the shutter at the end of it's travel.I shall never expect to use this however,and so it's not a matter of real concern .

Just as a matter of interest I bought the camera with it's J8M here in the UK from an ebay seller who verifiably purched it from Ivor Mantanle's collection,and it promises to fulfil all that I hope to have from a smooth and useable Kiev.🙂

The counter should move a notch when the film is wound on Brian.

Brian, it's a friction-driven counter that should advance automatically. You can move it against the friction to set it to zero, maybe if yours doesn't move automatically it's loose on the shaft or pressing against the upper casing? How hard is it to move it?

I had a problem on one of mine where the counter disc was pressed hard against the upper part of the casing and wouldn't advance. A little gentle "relieving" of the casing with a screwdriver freed it up.

It seems that mine is too loose,as it moves reasonably freely in either direction.I should be able to live with it,it will be good brain exercise to remember to set it as I go along.

The gear coupling it tends to drop out when removing the top, and sometimes is lost by careless repairers...
