Can anyone advise ? I recently bought a Jupiter 12 for my kiev 4. Although the lens operates smoothly off the camera, when Iput it on the camera the lens is rubbing against something in the camera when I focus down to about 2 metres and below?
Are only certain lensses compatible with certain cameras?

If so, is there a list of serial numbers for compatibility?

There shouldn't be any compatibility issues. Sounds like there might be a light baffle or something else in the camera just forward of the shutter that's in the way. Take the back off and set the shutter to B (use a release cable and lock the shutter open) so you can peer through the focal plane to see where the rubbing is occurring.

I have had compatibility issues with Kiev RF cameras and Kiev lenses but it was more to do with mounting the lens vis a vis year of camera manufacture versus year of lens manufacture.

For instance, I had an early 1960s Jupiter 9 lens that would not mount on an 1982 made Kiev 4M and on a 1981 Kiev 4 AM.. but the lens mounted fine on a Kiev 4 that was made in 1972 and also on a Kiev 4a from 1966.
