Hello Guys,

I've bought a nice Kiev-4a (1972) few weeks ago. I’ve tested it and taken some nice photos. Unfortunately, while playing I’ve messed focusing mechanism and the yellow patch in the viewfinder is no more accurate. :bang: Actually, it stays while focusing from infinity mark to about 4m and then it starts to move. It’s totally off also. I’ve checked the Kiev survival site and been so discouraged to move in. It looks like a major operation. Is it too complicate to fix by myself? I’m also considering sending to Oleg but it cost more than my camera.

I'll also add that the shutter is working accurately, no light leaks and frame spacing problems.

Thanks,
Vjeko

Hi Diomedes,
there is another thread dealing with the same:

Perhaps you may find my suggestions there more easy, although they assume you will have to disassemble the camera too, like the KSS.

As for sending your camera to Oleg, this is not a bad idea in case you don't want to disassemble. Take into consideration you may ask from Oleg a general CLA, including your problem, and will get back a SupeKiev, worth of my envy.

Cheers,
Ruben

I have worked on cars and bicycles with good results, but my forays into camera repair usually end in a disaster. I have one kiev 3 that I turned into a heap of tiny garbage. So I vote for Oleg, having a working kiev can be priceless.
