Kiev and non-Kiev lenses

Well, I don't think my Kiev rf will ever get me to totally give up on my SLRs, MF RFs or my folders. But I do like it more and more all the time. I now have the Helios 50mm it came with, and the Jupiter 35mm and 135mm lenses in hand. I also have an 85mm and turret finder on the way.

However, I like wide more that telephoto. Zeiss wide glass seems harder to find and more expensive than Leica.

My question is about Nikon and Canon glass: Do the early Nikon and Canon wide lenses fit the Kiev? Are they cost competitive? I know about the Orion 15, and I keep watching for one. Is that going to be as wide as I can get without a 2nd mortgage?

My goodness. 60 views and no answers. I don't have any comunicable ills I can pass on, and couldn't over the 'net anyway. :D :D

Doesn't anybody have a Kiev and Nikon or Canon lenses? Shameless bump to hope for an answer from anybody who even suspects they might know the answer.
 
Nikkor glass for the Nikon rf camera should fit the Kiev ,so anything wider from the 35mm/ f2.5 down would work with little focus error, the 35mm f1.8 might have focus error at close focus and at f1.8

Canon only made the rare 28mm f3.5 CT lens that will fit a Nikon/Contax/Kiev

the problem with all these lenses is cost, they are not too common or cheap to buy.

the CV SC series of wide angle lenses might also be an option for your Kiev camera.
 
Thanks for the above replies. I don't want to pay too much. The problem is even the Orion 15 lenses are not cheap. If the Nikon and Canon lenses are that much more, I will just have to be patient until another one of the Orions shows up.

That is how I get most of my buys off ebay. Patience. It has taken me several years to get another Fujica ST 901 at a price I was willing to pay. I hope its not that long for an Orion. I'm getting along in years. :D :D

I am curious why the 35mm Nikon might not focus correctly close up. Not a worry whoever ass I have a Jupiter 35mm I am satified with.

What are the CV or SC lenses, that is, who are they made by?

Kiev/Contax and Nikon each incorporate a 50mm lens mount into their body/focus mechanism. But there's a slight difference between the two. All lenses focus okay at infinity, but at close focus, the focus of 50mm lenses is off by several inches, and 85mm and longer lenses really can't be switched. For 35mm and wider, you won't really notice the difference escept wide open at minimum focus, and even then it will be very slight.

Orions take patience to find. They are wonderfully light and compact but are not RF coupled, and a 28mm Nikkor is a much, much better lens. Value-wise, the CV wideangle lenses in Nikon/Contax mount are excellent. I use a 25/4, and it's a top-notch lens.
 
VinceC, Pixtu, and jonmanjiro, thank you all very much for your replies and help. I think. I thought I had my GAS under control. But now, wow, a 21mm or 25mm. That would be nice!

And it is what I have thought FSUs were all about since joining RFF, and I used to read those long ago threads about acceptable FSU cameras and Leica or Contax lenses.
