Kiev hollidays

After several months of getting used to the Kievs for street photography, with the support of handheld meter, I will be taking some hollidays to be spent at the compact RFs beech, where the pleasures of AE are waiting.

This vacation is prompted by my Kiev used for color, leaking light through the top casting. This requires the troubles of dis-assembly and if going back to my working table I will start with the easier task of checking my Konica Auto S-3, with produced good results, but still needs viewfinder cleaning, yellow patch strenghtening and short distances focus check.

One possible obstacle may be the arrival of a J-3, upon which I will have to do again a full and better test of all my standards to know where I stand with this J-3.

Nevertheless keep it clear Kievs remain my flag RF fleet for street photography.

Meanwhile I have too a Kiev roll of Neopan to process when cold recedes.

Ciao Ruben, my "new" Kiev 2a arrived from Fedka with the same problem of light leaks from the top casting, and I sent it back to the seller for the repair job. Is this light leakage problem something that can return in a few year, or is the job (if properly done) "definitive"?

ps: I printed the tutorial of the KSS to eventually "do it myself", in the future
 
it depends on the material. factory sealed kievs use some kind of yak hair, it works but gets some leaks after the years of usage. mofern "foam" should last longer but not forever. however, my kiev 4 has light leakage too.

And for christmas, I got this Kiev 4AM without light leaks and a very nice Helios lens.

I got this one to replace a non working camera that needed to be return. Before returning it, I did get some good frames, some of which blew me away. I needed a Helios 103 and the Kiev was the only way to get one.

there were lots of Helios' 103 from Russia but I didn't want to pay the tax, shipping etc.
I was lucky enough to find a Kiev4am with the super sharp Helios 103 (the lens is superb, the camera has shutter problems) :D

it seems that I have mispelled the word holydays with all the possible mistakes alltogether. Am I right at this one ?

Hi Ruben! You may be the best person to know Russian Kiev cameras. I have been offered one for a reasonable price, but the seller is unable to tell does the camera fall in type lla or lVa. She gave me the serial number which is
6703507. Can you as expert tell me when has this particular Kiev left the assembly line and - on that ground - specify the type of this camera. I would appreciate a quick answer very much indeed!

Hei Mikael,

I certainly know less about Kievs than Ruben does, but by the first two digits of the serial number it should be a 1967 model, and that makes it a 4A in all probability.

Thank you indeed. May I say in correct Englishm that part of my drift will in cancelling holidays today, fixing the light leak, tanking advantage of the disassembly opportunity and improve some outer cosmetic details?

Back with my pair of Kievs on Sunday.

I now have a Kiev 4 coming as a replacement (my choice) for a defective Fed that I had ordered before the holidays.
Supposedly in very good working condition . The well regarded seller assured me I would be satisfied since he knows how picky I am.
