Kiev Light Leaks

I got back last evening from deer hunting and dropped my two rolls of fuji color 200 off for processing. When I picked them up today, many of the shots were streaked with apparent light leaks. The streaks seem to be in different spots and also if shots were taken in fairly quick succession, then later ones do not show the streaking.

I hope to scan a few this afternoon, but is it possible I simply didn't have the back cover installed correctly? I don't recall anything like this on the shots I've done in bw on this camera (c41 and conventional). Or could the one hour mini-lab have messed up? I was using the Jupiter 8m I got with it, and everything else about the shots are reasonable... well, barring my uncalibrated sunny-16 eyes :p

Any quick ideas as to the source of my problem? As I say, I hope to do some scanning after the little guy is down for his nap.

I can see some of it on the negatives, but without a light table and loop, I have a hard time being sure. Here's a couple of the shots from the affected rolls.

The first is a classic RF error - lens cap on...

Last one. Look at the lower left corner rather than the dude who should stay behind the camera.

Deer head hanging out of the trunk of a Toyota Hybrid, does anyone else see any irony in that?

Not 100% "green" I guess. :)

Extream green needs blaze orane - hunting is an important element in conservation. Though many here in Madison would like to pretend otherwise which does make it a bit fun to do. :D

Whoa! Who's that ugly dude? I hope you don't know him, William! :D

Yeah, these look like serious light leaks. I don't think it's the lab's fault (unless they had a light-leaking development system). They are the strongest on the frames with the sun inside.Do you have an everready case for your kiev? that would offer some protection against eventual light leaks from the door joints...

I do have a case for it. It's one of those annoying ones that the top half doesn't come off of it though so I haven't been using it at all.

It seems odd to me that it has only happened with those two rolls - I've taken quite a few rolls with it so far and these are the only ones to show it. I'm going to try to see what happens with the current roll before deciding what to do.

I too am interested in this subject, since my Kiev 4a also shows evidence of light leaks. They're mostly on the lower and right areas of the neg, indicating a problem at the upper and left parts of the camera body. I suspect it's the fit/seal of the back. When I use the inconvenient leather case, the leaks don't occur.

This was actually the third Kiev supplied by Fedka... the first two were replaced for other reasons, but had the same light leak pattern as well.

Well, I broke down and cut the top half off and the leather strap off (I have a better strap for it) so I can use just the lower half to see if it helps. I've had a few shots on the roll, so I'll be interested to see if there is a difference between before the case and after the case.
