Kiev stiff focus at 1m

I just got a Kiev 4am and after detaching/attaching the lens i noticed that the focusing made a "jump" at aprox. 1.1 meter.

I can't recall I had this before detaching/attaching the lens (but I'm not sure), anyone knows what might have happened? the jump is there even if just focusing the helical without the lens attached.

probably there were particles of dirt in the helical and they just moved to the 1.1 meter mark. you will have to disassebmle the helical, clean/ and relube it. watch out for the correct RF adjustment. I'm sure somebody will give you a link.

If the focusing (rangefinder itself) has a jump, you just need to focus from 0.9m to the distance of 1m. The moving mechanism at 1m for the rangerfinder lens is not smooth.

It is the lens moving mechansim thatis not smooth on my camera. I'm not sure I understood you, do you mean that it isnormal that it is not smooth at 1 meter?

Anyway, I'm not going to disamble the camera myself for this. The focussing is very accurate as it is now and it is not a big problem that focussing is not supersmooth at very close distance.

If the problem is with the rotation itself, can you overcome the bump by rotating? It's a big job to take out the helical thing. I have 3 cameras having a bump around infinity (20m or 10m) that will not affect the use. If I need to use that distance, I typically rotate the lens instead of the focusing wheel to overcome the resistance.

I almost always rotate the lens. Not that the focusing wheel is not good, it is just that it's faster rotating the lens.
