Kiev? Zorki?

Ill have a look at the Kiev tomorrow. The seller said that its in excellent condition, and the case and the lens cap arent missing either. I was also a bit suprised, that the seller is a well known photographer, here in Estonia.

And as ive understood, 11$ for it is cheap, right? Because it seems like a regular price here. A guy here bought a nicely working Fed-3 for 5 bucks

Yep, as R.J posted -- Dirt Cheap... If it is working at all well I think you will be very happy with it.

Babe magnet? When did you ever hear Nicole Kidman say "I love a man with a nice big Zorki"

Maybe not her - but it could explain a lot.....

Ah, Grasshopper. do as the great ones of the olden time did and you cannot err. Such elegant gesturings will also attract the village maidens as a fallen fruit attracts the wanton plum hound.

You too could look like this!

Cheers unto you,

Ian

I like the "best hold for vertical pictures."

Kiev! Romantic visions of Doctor Zhivago, etc.

Zorki, unfortunatly rhymes with dorky. Although you may get lucky if the babe is eather a middle agged MIT grad, or a wine connessour. Long odds at best.

Put a piece of electrician's tape over Зоркий and it might pass for a Leica II.

I got the Kiev yesterday. It looks great, but i think the rangefinder needs calibration. And i need a spool. The one where the film goes after advancing. Can i just wreck a regular film cassette and take the spool from there? Or is there a better way?

Yes, I use the spools from used cassettes, I cut off the film leader and tape it to the spool with scotch tape. Works fine.

the tape may actually mean you don't end up winding the leader back into the body - very useful for bulk loading, self processing, etc.

Try to find an old film can, some older ones use the tabs/grooves in the spool rather than tape, or get a mini-hacksaw and cut yourself a lip to hold the film instead.

Failing that, find two original Contax refillable cans, and use them :D

You might try this:

Lots of other good info there as well!

you guys are nuts. Babes dig TLRs! whip out the TLR and girls immediately get romantic images of you in your paint encrusted rags toiling over an unfinished masterpiece. Ultimate poor unappreciated art student accessory.

anyone wanna buy my seagull TLR? :D............for all that pulling power i only ask for a zorki 3m in return :D
