Kiev4 film advance???

I have a Kiev 4, seems to be in good shape. But the image spacing on the film strip/negatives is uneven. Although the imagines don't overlap, some touch and then there are wide gaps elsewhere on the strip. Does anyone know the specific solution for this? Thanks.

My Kiev 4a has the same problem. It didn't come with a take-up spool so I've been using a spool from a roll of film and taping the leader to it. Could that be the cause?

One of my Kiev4As spaces much too wide between frames (but consistent width). I've been meaning to try a spool from another 4A or at least check the diameter of the spool shafts, to see if that's the reason. Thanks for reminding me to look.

Isn't the framing determined by the sprocket counter cogwheels? In that case spool thickness should not play a role at all.

I have an original take up spool in my 4, and it does the same thing. Spacing will be ok for 4-5 frames, then some wide spacing, then maybe a couple that almost touch. Seems to be a somewhat random phenomenon, but it occurs with every roll.

I think Pherdi is right... Spools shouldn't make a difference in frame spacing, as there's a slip-clutch in the spool drive anyway to handle the growing diameter of the film-ladened spool as it fills up. With the back removed, wind the film while holding the spool drive shaft and feel the slip.

I'd think the problem has to be in the mechanism that drives the sprockets...
