Kinda new round here

Aha !!

Thank you!

I did a forum search but you should see the number of posts it brings up 🙂

Seems to be a common affliction around these parts. I'm suffering already.......

Welcome to RFF, Mr C! Yes, GAS is a pervasive problem here... Though some bravely claim they've fought it back to the point it's not an issue, I suspect that's largely wishful thinking or self-(and/or spousal)-deception! Doesn't hurt, though, to keep one's eye on the important goal of producing admirable and meaningful photos...

Thanks Doug!,

Now that I know what the GAS is I have to confess to being a longtime fellow sufferer.

Had a few RF cameras in my time, Zorki 6, Bessa-R and I currently own a Contax g1 which is a great camera but there's something about autofocus that doesn't feel like it's 'proper' photography.

I'm thinking about buying a manual rangefinder and I'm not sure whether to buy a new one like a Bessa R2A or go all out and buy an old Leica (M2,3 or 4).

Any advice would be gratefully received 🙂

You might as well get the Leica now and get it over with 😉
Seriously, not having a meter in the camera can be a big step toward better shooting. It certainly makes it more enjoyable. See an old FrankS thread called, I believe, "Chasing the Needle"

Welcome, Mr C, and of course you can mention the Sigma SD10. We're rangefinder enthusiasts, but most of us shoot in multiple formats, including digital. This is a camera-tolerant site.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

I've frequented this forum as a browser for about 6 months and I really like the quality of discussion here. There are many quality threads and some good banter between the members.

I love my SD10 but there's something truly great about getting back to basics.

Nick R. - you are probably correct - that Leica is certainly coming my way at some point so why not sooner than later? I'm just wondering which would be the best model for me and who better to ask than people who have undoubtedly been in the same situation before? Should I get the M3, the M2 or save ? Aaaarrrgghhh....

No meter - scary stuff - but it will improve my photography (I hope!)
