yeah, you didn't know about the "no more black 3a's" rant a few weeks back? haha

this makes me sad. Oh well, i'm sure Mr. K has something in store for us all.

I thought about buying one, but they are kinda pricey.
Besides, I have a wonderful Pentax Spotmatic F.

The Bessaflex offers some nice features, but it
can't meter wide open, like my SP-F does.
Stopdown metering is a real drag! 🙁

"Excelsior, you fathead!"

I happen to have the silver (Topcon-style) Bessaflex. The Bessaflex is worth searching for. Just think of a Bessaflex with a new Zeiss ZS 50mm lens (the 50 I think comes in both M42 and Nikon F mount).

I like my silver Bessaflex too, but the way Contax prices are, it seems less expensive to get a Contax SLR and Zeiss 50/1.4 in C/Y mount. Better body, same lens.

Chris, I agree. I bought a black Bessaflex because I thought it might be nice to have a "new" Spotmatic. As my Spotmatics are all SP's I've grown accustomed to stop-down metering, so that didn't bother me.

However, compared to the weight and solid feel of Spotmatics, the Bessaflex felt lightweight and had a sort of cheesy shutter release sound. On the other hand, it worked perfectly and all my Super Takumar and SMC lenses bolted right on and also worked just fine.

But as all my Spotmatic bodies had been CLA'd by Eric, they were basically as new, and I began to see the Bessaflex as something I could do without, so I sold it and bought a Bessa R. It's my first really good, modern rangefinder and I love it and use it almost daily.

Been looking for an F body. Someday.

Ted
