I had a weird situation this afternoon leading to four lost images. All good shots unfortunately (well I thought they were.) I had taken some shots this morning on a 16GB Kingston class 4 card. I have used these a bit and not had trouble with them. The card was recently formatted in camera. The 18 shots from this morning and the last couple of days were fine.
I took four shots later this afternoon. With the next two shots I suddenly had available only three shots for review, the two just taken, and the last of the four and all of the previous eighteen were missing. I turned off the camera and removed the battery and card and then replaced them. Now I had the earlier 18 images, but none of the late afternoon pictures at all. I stupidly took some more shots to test the recording function, having not remembered my golden rule of putting a new card in at the first sign of trouble. At home my Lightroom counted the 20 images remaining, and SanDisk's Rescue Pro Deluxe could do no better. Sunk. Very disturbing. I think I will stop using the Kingston cards altogether. I think this happened in a minor way once before but I wasn't sure, and later all the images were available. I always format in the default file format originally set up on the camera. I used Lexar and Panasonic 16GB cards extensively on a trip recently with hundreds of images and no problem with this camera.
Any suggestions or comments welcome. It does worry me that there might be some flaw in Leica's file directory writing software, the same thing that caused the long-running SanDisk Extreme 8G problems a couple of years ago.
