One of the things I have always wanted to play with is the old Zeiss 50 1.5 sonnar from the Contax rf's. Since I dont want to go through all the costs of getting a body and this and that so adapters....
I came upon this adapter today and wondered if there was any experience here with Kipon adapters and if anyone wanted to share any tid bits of adapting old contax rf lenses to M mount.

I have never seen that adapter, but I've owned a couple of the ones that are manufactured by RFFer Amedeo Muscelli, they work great.
Here is my Sonnar (a fantastic lens, the one lens I will never sell) on such an adapter.

film is exciting
Will it focus at infinity? Something like this could be interesting to have around, i too would like to play around with old zeiss glass.
Yes, focus is perfect. Some of the wide angle lenses won't fit as they conflict with the RF cam but the 50s and up work great.

Huhm, quite decent price ~$260. I'd like to try one hehe, Avotius do they ship within China only?

I searched ebay and eventually found it on the US ebay so they apparently ship worldwide. Id love to buy one right now but im tossing up the idea CV15/4.5 and i don't own any zeiss glass.
Damn you RFF.

Amedeo's stuff ships from the US, although he's located in Venezuela. Lots of satisified RFFers:

I've been wanting one of these for some time. Don't have the money now, but Robert, does Amedeo make them to order, or does he just put them up on eBay as he finishes them?
I took this yesterday with the Sonnar and this adapter.

I wonder if one of these would work with my w-Nikkor 35/2.5? That would save me having to carry two cameras!

Yes the Amedeo adapter does...I have that lens.
Do you want a pre-war/Wartime Sonnar, or a post-war Zeiss Opton Sonnar?
The Pre-war and Wartime Sonnars can be mounted in an LTM J-3 mount.

I have a postwar CZ Sonnar in an adapter, and shimmed it to "perfection". I also shimmed Nikon S2 for a CZO Sonnar. And shimmed a CZO 50/2 Sonnar for Nikon S-Mount. I found that I prefer the pre-war and wartime lenses over the post war lenses.

hey, the adapter focuses the 'wrong' way though.
I dunno how much that bothers you lads, but my Kiev drives me nuts sometimes...

Amedeo did an awesome job of converting a Nikon-S helicoid into an adapter for me. Works perfectly. His newest adapters with the improved locking mechanism look great!

last year I bought a KIPON Contax to M39 adapter from Ebay -seller Taiyoh2010 ( Mr Masato Murata ), must say the adapter is crappy:
1) the thread pitch isn't correct for Leicas, also doesn't fit Zorkis, nor Canons made after 1951, but fits my '54 Leotax F
2) the front ring with the distance indications often comes off, also some Contax lenses with external bayonet get caugth in the adapter, very difficult to unmount afterwards
I paid €150 plus shipping for this crappy adapter- better avoid it !
The seller wasn't helpful, and doesn't reply to my complaints !
Will order one from Amedeo Muscelli soon !

Good to know, thanks. (and I'm sorry for you...).
My Amedeo M mount adapter works well, even with longer lenses. And it is nicely finished.
