Sod that - post your knife pictures. I'm delighted other people carry knives too!

Anyone remember that knife scene in the film Crocodile Dundee………..?
😀

You need a bigger dog!

That would have been a really nice shot, except the dogs eyes are out of focus. I blame the point-and-shoot Olympus Trip.

I carry two knives routinely - an Opinel for fishing and shooting, and a serrated fixed-blade canoe knife on my PFD (personal floatation device) for kayaking (sharks, sea-monsters - you never know!) 😀 .
Acutally its a safety-knife to cut away rigging and rope in the event of a spill/tangle.

I really do...and my mutt looks a lot like a scaled-down and less shaggy version of yours.

Thankfully I survived tonight's walk without major incident. Mutt tried to trip me several times, but that's par for the course.

The last machine shop I worked in had an old man who would come in an hour early every day and on his own time fabricate and polish large, lovely knives. He had a waiting list for his knives and they were admired by all. If that is crazy then count me in too. Thanks for the memories Robert Smith. You are missed.

The thread was started for people to show their favorite knives.
Someone, no matter what the subject, has to turn the topic to "how bad" (insert thing here) is.

I know, it's awful when people have a negative and contrary opinion, isn't it? It would be so much better if we could just pretend that weapons are lots and lots of fun and only ever carried by sensible well-rounded chaps who use them for their wholesome hobbies. And those sensible adults live in a hermetically sealed world where children and nut jobs can never enter or observe.

Anyway, I'll get on with putting together the thread with my Nazi memorabilia. Assume none of you have any problems with that?

Your location says you're in Wales. To quote the UK government web site:

"The maximum penalty for an adult carrying a knife is 4 years in prison and an unlimited fine. You’ll get a prison sentence if you’re convicted of carrying a knife more than once."

Let's hope it's a tiny penknife or you're using it for work eh? Otherwise you may be in need of a chiv to keep the other cons off you in the showers!

Eek.

i read on the internets that hillary has a secret stash of illegal knives...she bought them online using a secret server.

Probably true. And in fairness to her, I'd be tempted to have a stash of AK47s and bazookas at the ready if I'd stood on a platform against all those right wing Christian nut jobs. 😱

It speaks volumes that I only had to read this much of your post to be almost certain you live in America.

Damn shame.

Population of the US is 324,118,787 as of 2016. 9000 incidents account for less than 1% of the total population...

This will be my last potential derailing post in this thread but I must know. What puts you so against knives as a daily carry? Were you physically threatened or personally witnessed a crime committed with a knife? Perhaps a family member or a close friend was assaulted?

Or is your opposition to knives based off of statistics and ignorant fear mongering?

Not trying to put you down but it's gotta be one or the other.

Well this is a lot better than the threads where people bring up using Nikon Fs or Leicas to bash heads.

Personally I believe in non-violence but I do have to open a lot of cardboard boxes and I have a fondness for tools. So, yeah there's usually a knife in my pocket, except when I forget it. Spyderco, Kershaw, Opinel, Buck I like.....

It's a fair question. I did answer it a couple of pages back, but yes I was personally threatened on a couple of occasions as a teenager and witnessed several other people being threatened/bullied with knives over the years. I find them personally very threatening and they represent a lot of extremely unpleasant things to me, such as intimidation, fear, domination, the hunting and killing of animals etc. I struggle to see how they are a valid part of most people's lives outside of the kitchen for 99.9% of the time, so the idea of regularly carrying them is extremely odd to me. Add in the problems that inner cities have with knife crime between young people, and I really can't stand the damn things.

If you read my first post - a long way back - I did say that I understand knives as a tool. I'm not stupidly suggesting that the knife in itself is a bad thing or wrong in some way. It's the glorification of the object and the fascination some people have with them that I detest.
