Kodachrome-Gone But How Close Can We get?

Here is a thought that came up when comparing some digital images with a K64 image and, of course, the K64 has a unique rendering.

How close can one get to K64 results with film or digital these days? Is there a software application?

I am thinking of vacation/travel photos now.

Kodachrome was a wonderful color slide film. I did use it but, truth be known, I liked Ektachrome better as I thought it produced more vibrant and richer colors.

I heard that Duane's still will process your K64, but only if you show up driving a DeLorean to drop it off.

Your X1 looks more like Velvia. Actually like it better than K64.

How was the traffic in the cove? I live in Knoxville and stay as far away from the park in the summer. Just too much traffic. The winter and early spring are different though. Not as much traffic.

If you're looking for trout fishing I can direct you to a place south of the park in Tellico. The stream is stocked and there's even a natural trout stream or two. It's in the mountains but out of the heavy tourist area. It's a national forest and is beautiful.

Well, the question is, on what is your focus: Detail rendition or colour rendition?
Concerning detail rendition the solution is very simple:
Provia 100F and its current 'cousin' AgfaPhoto CT Precisa deliver a much better detail rendition than K64. Both have significantly higher resolution, sharpness and finer grain.

Concerning colour rendition: There is no similar film. Provia 100F / CT Precisa have much more precise and natural colours.

And forget film simulation with software: It does not work, not at all, with any film.
If you compare the film original directly with the software emulation you will always see a significant difference.
Film and digital sensors / software are physically completely different mediums. And consequently the results are different.

I do not shoot slides anymore because of lack of good lab in my area, but my preferred slide film was Provia 100F.This reminds me I still have a few to be used !

As far as my intention, I have a lot of slides mostly Kodachrome, that I need to sort. I just have a desire to organize those now and I miss the color!

I, too, have done Provia I need to shoot, but I am very interested in the Agfa film mentioned above. Shooting slides may be an addition as soon as I get my 6 rolls of E6 back next week. Luckily I have a lab, a projector, some stocked film and a willing, ahem!... captive audience/motif with our son's Morky.

Just use an E6 lab with mail order service, e.g. ars-imago in Rome or Agenzia Luce in Trieste.
You can also use one of the excellent German E6 labs like Photo Studio 13 or 24h-Fotoservice: They do ship Europe wide.

Dave, AgfaPhoto Precisa CT 100 is cut from Provia 100F masterrolls. It is the "amateur version of Provia 100F". Provia 100F is selected and has tighter tolerances, and is cold stored in the distribution chain, Precisa as an amatuer film has not the obligation to be cold stored in the distribution chain, which may result in a bit higher tolerances.
In Germany the AgfaPhotoPrecisa is significantly cheaper compared to Provia.
