I don't own any of the modern lens designs, like the Leica ASPH, ZM or CV lenses but like the colors of Kodachrome (KR-64) a lot. Last year I had bought 20 rolls of expired KR-64 135-24 from member KM-25 here at RFF and from time to time I shoot some rolls of this film and send them in a batch to Dwayne's Photo for development.

Albeit it takes 2 to 3 weeks on average to get the film developed and back from Dwayne's Photo, I think it is worth the time. 🙂

Some photos, nothing spectacular, taken with my different lenses (and most of them posted here already ...) on KR-64:

all are nice, esp. the second one by Noctilux is terrific. after I got the 90/2 pre-asph, I really like the renders by the old lens design, compare to my current Summicron 50 and ZM.

combine with kodachrome is even marrier. but where do you develope your KR in japan thru??

thanks for sharing.

~ I like the Noctilux pictures a lot, the subdued tones really suit the look (even more than black and white dare I say it...) ~

I like the penguin and the red banner shots. I too have K64 in the fridge and occasionally shoot a few rolls. Leica glass and K64 is classic photography. I faintly recall as a kid thinking to myself how fast the new K64. Shot it for years. Now, K200 was fast. I'll miss it. TKS for posting.

Great cherry blossom shot- the bokeh makes it. I love the look of Kodachrome through older lenses- the color can't help but remind me of my childhood, something the modern coatings seem to alter. My dedicated Kodachrome camera always has the 40/2 or a V2 28/2.8 on it.

Lovely. A special film for all occasions.

Couldn`t agree more. I used to use it in the 70`s and have just begun again.
Over in the UK the big chemist chain ,Boots, have it on a buy two get one free offer. I was doubtful about sending it to be processed though. However the service was fast , there and back in 14 days. I`d forgotten how good those colours were !

Thanks a lot for the nice comments ! 🙂

For me Kodachrome still is something special. I have used it a lot back in the 80s with my Nikons (F3HP and FM) and some Nikon prime lenses, mainly 24/2.8 and 105/2.5.

Developing is not cheap, for 6 rolls I pay ~ $55 to sent them out to Dwayne's Photo and it takes usually 2 weeks to get the films back. I think it is worth the effort !

I really hope that this film will be available for some more time and become a little more popular again.

Cheers,

Gabor

Thanks for posting these, maddoc. I'd love to have a Nocti someday, but I'll have to accept the fact that it probably will never happen.

I'm going to be shooting some KR64 next weekend, as I attempt to recreate the first street photography scenes I shot 36 years ago with that lovely film itself. My main lenses will be a pre-asph 50/1.4 Summilux, a 1958 50/2.8 15-blade Elmar, a 1946 50/2 10-blade Summitar.

Never say never is all I got to say. After 18 years shooting with Leicas a Nocti fell into my lap the other day. Latest model, pristine, unreal. Its big and its this and that, but when you need the speed it delivers. Seriously, a Leica f1.0 lens as my standard -- that's insane.

Al: I sort of/mostly agree, though K-II had its problems with exposure latitude and the blues of the sky could go a bit funny ... again, I may be dis-remembering. I seem to recall that when K25 came out I was not thrilled about everything it was, but happy that in some limited ways it was "better" than K-II.

I have two rolls of K25 left, just waiting for the right situation to expose them.
