I decided to spend a lot of these last 10 rolls shooting outdoor portraits of family and friends. These were SLR pics, taken with a Pentax LX and SMC-M 100/2.8, a great, great little lens.

I am really going to miss the stuff.

John:

I've had the same idea. While I want to shoot the bulk of my remaining Kodachrome at Lake Superior next summer, I am going to dedicate one roll or so to my family, especially my Dad and stepmother, who are 85 & 86 respectively, and my son and daughter. Probably the only time we will all be together is American Thanksgiving, so I have until then to prepare. I am planning using some flash along with available light. I need some additional flash equipment, but I do have a flash meter so that's set.

I'm not very experienced with portraiture, but I have really been enjoying this little project. I will definitely continue it, perhaps beyond my stock of K64.

There really is something to waiting for the right moment to shoot. There's this little pause when people have quit their initial nervousness/selfconsciousness/whatever, but haven't yet settled on an expression--that's the time to do it. My kids are the exception there; they are used to getting photographed all the time...

Good portraiture is not as easy as it seems. Its my raison de entre to photography. I find the best portraits are those taken in shaded condition or close to window light as they are not as harsh.
