Kodak 400UC -- Gone from Walmart?

This is a professional film stock that's a few bucks more expensive than other films. My guess is it couldn't compete with the lower cost MAX, Fuji, and store brand films on the rack, and the film wasn't moving so they gave the space to something else.

Target, WalMart, CVS doesn't really cater to the advanced amateur or "professional" film photographer market, so it always kinda surprised me that they carried it anyway and doesn't surprise me that its dropped. It always seemed out of place to me in these kinda of stores.

I generally order all my film on-line anyway but I did "steal" the last 3-pack of this film on clearance at CVS for $6.50. I drove to another CVS a few miles away to try to pick up more (all of it actually, greedy slob that I am). That CVS still stocked it at the regular price, as verified by the store manager and that location intended to continue to carry it.

Kodak made some big hoopla about this being sold 'everywhere' about a year after it came out if I remember- I never see it at my nearest box store or 'drug'store. My local Walmart (Littleton NH) only seems to have Max & Fuji- Fuji gets the prime space.

I have been wanting to try out this film and saw it at WalMart for $8.00 and some change. Picked up the last pack they had, noticed it was 36 roll instead of the standard 24. 😎 I said! That was over a month ago and haven't seen any sense. BTW they have stupid disposable cameras everywhere. I can't believe people buy those things but they must. I got behind a lady in the checkout that was buying the high $ model with flash.🙄

I went to a Wal-Mart in the Boonies yesterday. They had 6-7 3 roll boxes of 400 Ultra, expires 2009, for $9.50, used to be $12.00. I bought it all. I'm going to another backwoods Wal-Mart tomorrow. Maybe I'll get lucky again.

I did notice Fujifilm 100 & 800 in place of Kodak products. The Fuji 100 was silly cheap-like $4.50 for 4x24 exp. rolls. It was not labeled Superia or Reala. Just Fuji 100. Anybody have any experience with this low end generic color negative film?

Stay away from Walmart. They've done more to put people out of manufacturing jobs than any other force on the planet. And now they won't even carry Kodak UC films any more.

Speaking of the improved Portra film (and sorry to hijack this thread), but has anyone in Northern California/Silicon Valley received their free samples from Kodak? I promptly put in for mine and saw all the postings here from others around the country who received theirs but never received anything myself.

I tried 3 different Targets, another Walmart and still no 400UC in sight.

I guess time for online purchase -- is this a good idea when it comes to film at 400 speed? I mean, does anyone know if the carriers X-RAY fim packages? I travel a lot so cumulative X-ray is a concern.

Well, I finally got 'round to needing more 400UC and indeed my walmart no longer carries it.
I've just gone mail order only for my color film.

Damn it! There were only two films that I bought from local stores-
Kodak 400UC and Kodak 400BW.
Today I go to get more from CVS and both of those are no longer carried!
They have twenty five hooks of disposable cameras, tons of crap Max other film and the very ones I want they delete!! grrrrr...

Same here. I used to buy it Long's Drugs, but they've stopped carrying both 400UC and 400BW.
