Kodak Film Prices Set To Rise By 15%

So what? it does not bother me, because

- TMY-2 is a ridicoluous low 3,45€ here in Germany at generalphoto. Even with 15% higher price it remains very cheap.
And much cheaper than 10 or 20 years ago, if inflation is considered.
And don't forget that today you can get the best analog cameras, the ones you've dreamed of in your youth, for almost nothing

- Fuji Pro 400H is only 4,30€; AgfaPhoto CT Precisa slide film is only 3€

- film is still much much cheaper in the long run than digital (one of the reasons I've come back to film), because long term storage of digital data is very very work intensive and therefore cost intensive;

Archiving on film is about 10x cheaper and much more safe than digital storage.

This has nothing to do with Kodak! The global silver prices JUST went up significantly.. people have been stealing Xray film and chemicals from labs to salvage Ag to make some cash!.
im sure all the film producers will increase their prices as they start coating their new batches.

IMHO, there should be some other reason/s..

In Germany the Ektar and the Portra are quite a bit more expensive than the Fuji C41 (though I seem to like more the Kodak here), so another price rise will make the decision in the near future even harder.

But at least it makes my recent purchase of 50 4x5 sheets of Ektar Exp 02/2012 (for about 100 Euro) look even better 😛

Myself and two other film shooters are doing a group buy.

This is an ALL film order from B&H - the total cost including shipping and taxes was $1,037 US - the bulk of it being Portra (but I couldn't resist some Efke.. especially 25 and 100)

Cheers,
Dave
From this total what the shipping cost ? And did you include (B&H like to do this) duties, tax etc ? With my last order from B&H the shipping costs to Toronto where huge.

If you take a ten year price...... silver used to be below US$10 before mid 2006 and below US$20 until the surge in early 2011..... compared to now, the price is more than 3 times higher than back in 2006 and more than 50% higher than less than 2 years ago....... if they didn't stock enough silver back then..... they are surely to be hit now.

Sounds like a large film order is on the horizon...even sooner than I imagined. I was planning to do it, but was hoping to put it off a bit.

BH prices are great, especially when compared to New Zealand prices. Fuji Provia 400x goes for about USD 35 per roll for 35mm format. Even the stores here will tell you to get it from overseas.

Buying it in smaller quantities, and then using US Postal Service International Priority mail is the way to go. A USPS Int'l Priority box is only $14 to send, and will hold quite a bit of film.

Looks like it's time to put in another big order at Freestyle...

I hope the price hike really is due to increased material costs etc. Not because Kodak is trying to retain pre-digital profit margins on decreasing unit sales.

But then again if you have ever had contact with management at Kodak, you know that the dumbest answer in the room is usually the one that wins (engineers and researchers excluded).

Shot some Tri-X recently, rated it @800 and loved the results.

In Europe its prices are gonna put me on welfare though, so I'm sticking to RolleiRetro 100 and 400S, rated @800.

I will be stocking up on D76 though because that's what the 400S rated @800 goes into.

Kodak raising prices, sure, why not. Their negatives are the best there is. Price increases help them make those a while longer... If I want cheap, I go to eBay and buy cheap old stock while it lasts, otherwise I buy Portra 160/400 and TMY2 fresh 🙂

Well ... I already have a fridge full of film that I don't have time to use so the immediate effect on me is negligible.

I supect Harman will now bump the price of Ilford (remember them?) and a few of the other remaining players may do the same.

On the positive side ... T-shirt sales may go through the roof! 😛

Did you ship with Purolator? I found shipping to be a lot cheaper with that option compared to UPS. And you pay all duty and tax upfront, no surprises.

Jan, where I can get Fuji 400H for that price in Germany?

In Indonesia people are selling that for about 6,7 Euro. Too expensive for me.

I don't remember, but it was cheaper option rather. They have an option to pay taxes at the point of delivery, but if someone would elect this the shipping goes up 4 times.

I thought I'd let you guys know - I looked on amazon.com this morning and Portra 400 in 220 was $48 for a five pack. They had three rolls left. Unfortunately for everyone else I bought all of them 😀 now it says the price is $68 through another vendor, but it appears you can still order via amazon for $48 and it will take 1-3 months for the next stock to come in. I would recommend doing it, as the pro packs have been ~$60 and I'm sure they'll go up soon.
