Kodak Hawkeye B/W

Just picked up trwo 150' cans of Kodak Hawkeye B&W Surveillance film for $20 each. It's expired but only in 2011 and kept in cold storage. The price was just too tempting.

Information is sketchy with more about a colour version though some have said it is TMax 400 on a thinner base. Has anyone used much of this? If so what can I expect? Thanks.

I used H&W film with the H&W developer in the 70s and someone said it was tech film. The H&W developer is not made anymore (of course), the formula is still extant on the IN. If you find the formula and can make it you will get full tones. I may be completely off the subject because I don't know about the above film. But here are a couple of images of H&W in H&W developer:

Not sure this is the same stuff. The most I can find is that it is more sensitive to UV but then others have said it is basically TMax 400 on a estar base.

It's not the same. It is halfway between PlusX and TriX in speed and looks. Tends to be somewhat contrasty and there is a Flickr group too which may help.

I bought a bunch like you and recently ran a spool thru PyrocatMC at 15 min. Looked pretty good but the scanner is only just installed on the new machine so haven't any samples of that combo to show.
I will go and look.

Certainly the Massive Dev Chart times make it look very similar to TMax.

I use it pushed to 3200 in Ilford ID11, basing the times on comparison of the Massive Dev Chart times, including TMax, for D-76 and the relative increase in development time for pushing in the data sheet.

I've not really got anything to compare it against. And I've not printed it. Scanned I get very different grain between my Canon flatbed and my "new" Plustek 7200.

These are Canon 8800f scans. The Plustek shows better resolution of fine detail but also much more grain (aliasing) at the same image resolution.

I did buy it cheap on ebay - 6 rolls from memory. That was 3-4 years ago. About to finish my second and the rest frozen.

I'm tempted with the ongoing availability.

I haven't found the base noticeably thinner than my only comparison, C41 films of various brands. Off the roll it doesn't show much curl, but will if you leave it spooled long enough.

OK, my guest for dinner is gone. Here is a HE exposed in a Silette and developed in Ansco 130. My good lady the quilter. I originally thought this was FP3+ but it clearly says on the tongue that it is HE.

I'm looking forward to using it. I was thinking of using Tmax dev. I also have Ilfosol 3, Rodinal, DDX, and some old D76. Any suggestions?
