Kodak introduces new motion picture film

I don't see how Kodak can separate its film for consumers vs. its film for movie production. I always thought that the film was designed for the movie industry first and then sold to consumers for photography as a secondary market. Why would you sell the consumer business if you are still making film for movies?
I guess I shouldn't spend too much time trying to make sense of the business moves made by Kodak management these days.

I think this demonstrates where the real money is to be made with film. The volumes that pro/hobbyist photographers shoot are just too small to be significant.

Digital images are more likely to still be on the medium on which they are saved but you won't be able to access them easily, if at all.

Paper is still the best medium for storing information. I think I have an article about it saved on a zip disk somewhere.

Those 8" disks won't last, stick with something tried and tested, like a 14" disk pack. Nobody will ever need more than 5Mb on one device...

This means that ECP-2D development kits will live too. Maybe one day we will be using cinema color films like we use the 5222 (Double-X)..

Well, it is a RECORDER film. Not really that useful for general photography.

This is a new film, not a new concept. I guess the announcement just woke some people up who don't know how to place it within their own little universe.

I doubt the irony is lost on anyone, including Kodak people. I'm sure the product was months in the making. It's just the timing that is ironic. Kodak has made commitments to the movie industry through 2015, so they need product to sell. A film-based archival medium for digital movies is a good one. If movie studios can be convinced, sales will go up as digital becomes more prevalent.

I still have stuff on Iomega ZIP disks. It was my own fault for not transferring them but I didn't see it coming. Once I upgraded my computer and the OS I found a lot of wares were no longer compatible.

In the long run, there will be not a single sign neither you nor I nor anyone else were ever here.
