Kodak Retina Ia Repairs

A friend of mine sent me a nice little Retina he had recently been given so I could give it a once over. The shutter was a bit sticky, and the back had been ripped off the hinge, so it took a bit of work, and chasing down a parts camera to get it back in working order.

Tip For Frame Counter Reassembly

If the pawl on the frame counter does not engage the toothed wheel of the counter tightly enough, you will then have spots where the counter will stop rotating. A slight bending of the pusher end towards the center of the counter will alleviate this problem.

Thanks, Hans. Sometimes it takes me a while to figure out what is going wrong, as it was such a simple mechanism that looked okay.

Additional notes

On this particular camera, I had trouble with getting the frame counter to operate correctly, and actually bound things up by over tightening the retaining screw. So I backed it off a little, but that proved to be too much as it backed itself out even more after I had film tested it, and sent the camera back to it's owner. This caused the frame counter to jam, which then stops the winder.

So when I got the camera back, I put a drop of Blue thread locker on the retaining screw so it won't back out on it's own. Hopefully that will cure the problem.
