Kodak Retina IIa purchase

I won an eBay auction for a clean fully working Retina IIa. Upon arrival I found the frame counter non-working due to a broken frame counter ratchet spring. I contacted the buyer and since he advertised it in perfect working order I asked for a refund of $20 off the price I paid. His response was telling me what I could do to myself with a baseball bat so I filed a paypal complaint and am asking that I be refunded $20 since I want to keep the camera.

Needless to say he is not happy since his account is currently locked till this claim is resolved.

Once I find this spring I'll have the camera fully working.

Now why I need a third Retina IIa is beyond me..... 😀 😀 😀

That is a common problem. I hate that film advance mechanism. I use dental floss to hold back the locking mechanism while re-inserting the advance onto the camera. First time was "WHY WON'T THIS WORK!".

I think the biggest problem is not that it is a weak point but that many users let it go till the lube gums up which then puts a lot of pressure on the spring tab.

I have a Retina IIa that was given to me in used condition in 1964. Once a year I disassemble it and clean it and it has yet to break..

If you think this one is difficult you won't want any kids within hearing distance from you when trying to reassemble the advance of a Super Paxette or it's sister the Braun Super II. You'll be cussing like a sailor before it's over.. :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:
