'Kodak Survey Shows that Professional Photographers Remain Ardent Users of Film'

I use both film and digital

I use both film and digital

after going all digital in 2005 (I gave all my film gear away, including a Yashica GSN) I was stuck indoors this past summer with little to do so I started looking at my old negatives and scanning them. The old color negatives are turning wierd colors (a plus in an "arty" sort of way) but the black and white negatives are in perfect shape. So, I promptly bought a newer version of my first ever SLR, and several other cameras (including a Canonet here on RFF) and have been happily making more photos in both mediums.
Now that I'm paying attention to film again, I'm shocked to find some of the film I used to love gone from the market, but I'm making do. I'm wrestling with the expense of a better scanner and have decided that the new scanner will be the equivalent of any new digital body I might buy, price wise.

What will be, will be. Won't it? When I read these thoughtful posts I feel a certain false anxiety welling up inside me and for what? I've got one hell of a lot more life behind me than in front of me and the realization that I, and a lot of us may not be around to witness the end of film, the resurgence of film or the replacement of digital with whatever new media comes along. And at the end who of us will give a poop?

Once one realizes that the image is the important thing then one makes choices. Film has it's advantages and so does digital. Just use the tool that fits your hand.

Advantage of film: The shadow detail of nighttime or indoor shots with Neopan stand-developed in Rodinal can not be matched by digital. If you are a photojournalist or a wedding photog I'm sure you could care less. I'm neither tho, so I could care less about digital.

The flaw in my argument is that I have never run a side-by-side comparison of this to actually prove it to myself. Can somebody who has the gear do this and report on it on RFF? Then maybe I'll consider getting digital someday. But as mentioned there is the money issue; that is a real disadvantage to digital.
