D-76 at 1 + 1 works beautifully with Tmax.
For sure.
Back when introduced, Kodak said it was tested and engineered with D76 as the developer.
Internet is full of misinformation.

Anybody tried pushing Tmax400 @1600?
Any sample of the results?

But I think I'm right in saying that Xtol was introduced a little bit later than the Tmax films and that it became the recommended developer. Or is this just more 'misinformation'?
At 800, Tmax 400 in HC110 1:60 at 12.5 was hard to tell I shoot it at 800, though 12.5m may have been a tad short in developer time 14m may have been better for 800 with my setup, the deep shadows blocked up a little.
I am going to run a roll at 1600, and try 16m... I will report back with some samples. I can't see why not, at 800, the grain and contrast is great!

I've also shot it at EI 800 several times and developed it in ID-11 with very good results.
Now i'm on holidays in Malaysia and I've shot a copule of rolls rated at 800 at night, but unfortunately some of the best shots are underexposed.
I'd try to develop them at IE 1200-1600 in ID-11, but it would be interesting and useful to know about others' experiences first.
Thank you for your support, I'm very curious to see your samples!

No, D76 stock with Tmax 100 is really nice (I prefer D76 stock instead of 1:1 with all films).
Where the the Tmax developer really shines (d) was with Tmax P3200. You could really squeeze the speed with that developer and P3200. You could process as long as you needed with certain dark pits of HS football stadiums in the 80's and the 90's. Certain stadiums were easily in the 20-24 min. range at 70-2*.The best looking highest speeds was with this combo 1:4.
The newest versionTmax 400 I've not tried with Tmax Developer, but I that combo I would guess would give the maximum speed and quality. With the new fine grain Tri-X that could be a very good looking 1600-3200; maybe more.....hmmm wheres my tri-X

For modern technology films I can recommend:
Xtol/Fomadon Excel W27 (Kodak/Foma)
PC-TEA (P. Gainer)
Tmax dev. (Kodak)
DD-X (Ilford)
FX-37/FX-39 (G. Crawley)
Ultrafin T-Plus (Tetenal)
Also suitable:
D76/ID11/Fomadon P W37 (Kodak/Ilford/Foma)
HC-110 (Kodak)
What is THE best: There is no THE best .... :bang:
