I just got a Konica 35mm M-mount Hex. It's kinda big when you put a UV filter and the hood on. How flare resistant is it without the hood? I know I can run a roll and find out but just wanted to see if anyone had the answer. Thanks.

I have one, and never used it without a hood. Not because if it flaring... just because I like the hood.

You won't regret your purchase. I don't regret mine. And I may add that the lens is probably very safe against flare with or without hood. 🙂

I suggest using the wide angle heavystar hood.
Much more compact than the original and the VF blocking is not too bad.

I recently purchased one myself and I can't wait to see the images from it.
Thanks for your input Francisco and Mike.

Still digging the M5, Francisco?

Konica lenses do not flare. My 28mm M-Hexanon and 35mm UC-Hexanon do not flare. Hoods attached 100% of the time. Like all of my lenses.

I put the hood in a box, and just keep on shooting. All the M/LTM konica glass performs really well with regards to flare. Don't sweat it, just shoot it. 🙂

Back when I looked into this lens, "veiling flare" and bulk were the two big knocks on it. Apparently, the flare was to have come from the concave lens surface of the front element. Reference: http://photo.net/leica-rangefinders-forum/00NXyE. Of course, it's heresay to me. All my hexanon lenses have been flare-free in my experience. Certainly, at $500, it sounds like a lot of lens.

When I had one I was impressed that it was nearly impossible to get it to flare ... and the 50mm f2 I had was much the same!
