Price is whatever the buyer is prepared to pay, its an auction. I had an S2 but sold it a couple of years ago, not as good as the Yashica GT I had at the same time, nice lens though.

I got my "Montgomery Wards am551" branded version for $15 at a thrift store.

Leica owners on this thread suggesting someone is overpaying for an old - albeit fine, camera? If so - pot meet kettle.

I can't help but be very skeptical about the legitimacy of that transaction. Besides being outrageously high, the lack of detail in the description, and lack of any return policy makes me wonder what drove these two bidders to such a level.
When there isn't enough info on the item I am purchasing on ebay I write the seller. They usually give me more info or add photos if I have asked and they have time. So maybe you aren't seeing behind the scenes conversation/s. Still seems a bit high. I usually check the sold items to see what they go for IF I am not familiar with the prices. Then I decide how much is worth it to me. Prices for that camera on ebay seem to range between 10 and 30$.. must be the case that drove that one so high. These didn't have cases LOL

I bought an Auto S2 with a case for 20 bucks off ebay.
I got one and a half rolls through it before it broke. It did not survive a trip back from Boston, which is a shame as I did like the lens.
I took it apart; mechanical and electronic quality is highly suspect IMO. I'd rather buy a cheaper one and have it serviced myself, than rely on an ebay description. 2c.
