Konica Auto S2 Meter Problem

Hi, recently I bought a nice Konica Auto S2, got it from local Ebay for a fine price, I knew the meter was not working, so when I got home I removed the bottom plate looking for unsolded wires, but found that everything was in place, so I dismantled the battery chamber where I found that the problem was sulphated contacts on the test battery buton (solved with vinager solution). Re ensambled everything and puted in a PX625A baterry, the meter was working again!
Now the bad part is that checking the meter against my handheld meter, I´ve found that is knocked down one F-stop, so I went to the Electric Eye on the lense barrel, I cleaned the glass and the contacts but nothing happened.

I've grown fond with this camera, so I would like to repair it, the lense render very nice pictures and the viewfinder is awsome, very big and clear, easy to focus on low light.

Anyone solved some similar problem?

Regards,

Pablo

The 625A battery you installed is an alkaline. It has the wrong voltage for your meter. You need the mercury cell, the Wein replacement cell, or one of the converters.

Or, you could calibrate it to a good hand-held meter, adjust the ASA/ISO setting and shoot away.

Yes, I used the alkaline battery, and an old Mercury one I still got.
The voltage Isn´t giving me bad readings.

Thanks anyway.

It's a Sekonic made meter. There is an adjustment under the top. You could try and "zero it".

Just a Bump to see if anyone had solve something similar.
Thanks Paul I think that messing with adjustment screw will be my last attempt.

I was wondering where I can get the Wein replacement cell or a converter for the S2 I just bought?
Thanks

You should be able to buy a Wein cell in almost any drug store, Walgreens, etc (assuming you are in the US). Converters come from many places - the Cris MR-9 is $29.99, and you can find them on the bay for a little less. Also, I supply some of the members here with ones I make to order - price for RFF members is £7.50 plus post at cost (I normally sell them for £10 incl post).

I do a couple of different versions, depending on the current you need the device to carry. The basic one will do 200uA (non-GIII QL17, Rollei 35), the mid model 750uA(Konica S2, Oly SP) and the heavy duty 1 mA (GIII QL17 and Nikon F), all the same price with 3 month warranty on parts and labour.

Let me know if you are interested.

My understanding is that the Cris converter is a shade thicker than a genuine PX-13. Is you converter thinner?

Paul,

I can't speak for the Cris product with any certainty - I have never seen one, but their spec says they are 0.010" thicker (around 0.25mm) with a SR44 fitted, say 6.20mm overall.

My adapters with a SR44 come out between 5.85 and 6mm thick. The specification for the PX625 is 5.95mm, so I'm not far off correct (and possibly closer than the Cris product?).

I have not yet found a camera where the odd 0.1mm made any difference.
