Konica Big Mini

Zoom model is bigger and it has more focal length choices than BM302

:)

Otherwise BM302 is last fixed focal length model of highly successful BigMini series. BM201, BM300, BM301 and BM302 are capable cameras. Do you prefer zooms or one FL?
Lately I prefer wide zoom models starting at wide end (24-28) to cameras with one 35mm lens, though. Or fixed 28mm models.

As for 35mm BM I kept Konica A4 - precursor of BM201 because of sentimental memories.

I prefer fixed but although I thought I ordered the fixed it appeared to be the zoom.

Just want to know if the image quality will be as good as the fixed or that I just bought a piece or garbage.. ?

I haven't used particular BM but 2X zoom without extreme FL is hard to make bad, especially if it comes from Konica house.

Is Neo of 1993 yours? That's 40,000 yen. Go though all 90's and see your model is somewhere between 17,000 Jump Auto P&S and 90,000 Hexar AF. Heck, even sought after BM-F with 35/2.8 lens cost less than your zoom model.

My bet it is decent camera. Hope you like controls, specs and ergonomics! btw smart placement of zoom buttons - no need to remove right rind from shooting position to adjust focal length. Konica knows stuff, listen to me.

I have both the 501Z and the 201 fixed 35mm. Both have excellent image quality. The fixed lens model is of course slightly better, but the 501 is one of the best (if not the best) compact zoom cameras I have used; sharp and with a very good colour rendition. Both are highly recommended.

I got the Big Mini in today and although I like almost everything.. AGAIN this seems a camera with a slacking shutter release button. Pressing it most of the time it will shoot, sometimes immediately, sometimes after a second.. and sometimes not at all.

This is the third camera I got this week (Espio, XA2 also) that have the same issue.
Can I fix this or am I just having bad luck?

Maybe not bad luck on the AF cameras as much as unfamiliarity with how they work. It may just be a matter of technique? On the Espio and the BM, press shutter button halfway after composing to confirm autofocus/metering, then fully to release shutter. Hold at halfway point to recompose after focus if desired. Once you get used to this it will begin to feel more natural. The XA2 you might just have to find the sweet spot on the shutter.

All I know about the Big Mini is: don't pure 7-up on it. My daughter did it and then innocently asked me what was wrong with her camera; I bought for her. I think I have a manual for one around here, if anyone is interested, I'll go looking.

I was thinking this.. I mean if 1 person tells you you're a horse, kick him in the nuts. If 2 persons tell you you're a horse start doubting.. but if three call you a horse.. buy a saddle ;)

The M6 and X100 have been the camera's mostly used by myself so I might have to 'relearn' shooting with camera's like this... let's hope its indeed me who defective in this perspective ;)

I've had great experience with my Big Mini. It's all beat up and the VF is cracked but if focuses fine and works wonderfully. I just throw it in my bag from time-to-time and take it with me. I don't worry about messing it up because it's already a beater.

Here are some images from a race I went to with my church. NASCAR is a weird place...
