A repair on this camera will run $65 or so, probably more than the value of the camera when working. I doubt they know much about cameras, any "regular" camera seller would know that repairs are expensive.
I still think they may have known there was a problem with it and hoped it was bought by a collector - but will have to give them the benefit of the doubt on that. $65 is more than it cost - I shall definately be quoting that at them but won't say where from! It will definately go back recorded delivery. I suspect that they'll try and avoid a refund of the original postal costs albeit that I have a mail from them that states "full refund", we shall see. It was from ebay so if I have any trouble from them I'll raise a "not as described" complaint against them since if you state it's fully working it should be!
Hi,
If you need evilbay's or better still Paypal's help, you will need an independant appraisal. Take it to your local camera shop and get them to write a note saying that the meter is not working. If you have this, they will probably decide in your favour but otherwise, they will side with the seller.
I have found the Minolta Hi-Matic F to be an equally good (and similarly designed) option. It is easier to re-seal, and I have found it to have less electronic trouble. Plus, it has a great and very bright rangefinder patch. Just my 2c worth.
