I have a C35 EF coming soon and I'm wondering what I can expect. It's been a long time since I've shot with a scale focusing 35MM, and hopefully this one will perform as good as a previous Olympus I once owned.

I love the quality I get from my regular C35, although presently the shutter won't open, and I'm wondering if the quality of the EF lens will be as good?

I leave for Buriatia [Siberia] in a couple of weeks and will take the EF with me if everything appears to be working. And of course my Yashica will also travel with me, but this time it'll be my mint black MG-1.

Hopefully, I'll get something worth posting upon my return. I'll shoot colored film in the MG-1 and 400 B + W in the EF. Might as well carry my mint Zenit 122 with me - it's a great performer even with its limited shutter speeds.

For some reason I really like these early autofocus cameras. Cheap point-and-shoots with sharp f2.8 lenses. I read that they focus by starting out with the lens fully extended, then it is pushed back on a spring until it gets a signal from the IR light, then it stops (where it should be focused), subsequently, you only get one shot at it. This has been my experience with my early IR Minolta. I saw the Canon version the other day at the thrift store, now I'm kicking myself for not getting it.

My Minolta has a lot of personality. It gives you a coded beep to tell you what it's up to (the code is writen out in text on the back). It's in love with it's flash. it will beep at you and not take a picture until you raise and turn on the flash. It makes strange noises. A very funny camera.

Kind of like R2D2 on Starwars?

The C35 EF is not an auto focus, but zone focusing. I believe the Konica C35 MF is AF. I also like the early fixed lens auto focusing cameras. They take very sharp pics and basically very fast [so to speak]. I use my Minolta AF2 quite a bit and it always produces a very sharp picture. If the C35 EF isn't up to par, then I'll take the Minolta
AF2 with me into Siberia.

I just Googled the C35 EF and on one of the sites someone stated that the C35 EF has only two shutter speeds. Is this correct?

The Konica C35EF arrived the other day and I must admit it looks to be in new condition and so does the case. I ran a roll of 400 through it and tomorrow I'll see if the prints match the camera's appearance. In the meantime, I started working again on my original C35 to see if I could get the shutter blades working, and behold I again have my trusty C35 with working shutter and meter. I first purchased a C35 for my wife while living on Okinawa around 1970, not the one I presently have, and picked this one up around 12-14 years at a pawn shop for $10. Had it in Siberia with me several years back and have the pictures posted under my pictures here on the forum. The B+W picks taken at that time came out really great and I was anxious to take it with me back to Siberia next week, but because the shutter wouldn't open I picked up the C35EF to take it's place. Now that my original C35 is working again, I'm not sure which one to carry with me for more B+W pics. I think I'll go with the EF this trip to see how it functions, that is if my pics I pick up tomorrow are worthy to take it. I hope to post some results tomorrow.

Harlee:

Why not take both. They're not large cameras, and that way you're assured of backup. I have the Konica C35 AF. Bought it new in '77 for the bride. She never used it, and I rediscovered it while doing some spring cleaning recently. It was the world's first commercial autofocus camera. Great little camera and you can't beat that Hexanon lens!

First Pics from C35EF

Received my pics back today and am very pleased with the results of the C35EF. Here are a couple of samples, one outdoors and one available light at the mall. I'll feel very comfortable carrying the C35EF into Siberia with me later this week for some B+W pics. It appears to me that the bank people were't quite sure of the number of their bank!!!!
