If you need more power than the HX14 provides, there's the HX18 to consider if you need one stop more. It's the flash that comes with the HexarRF. Two auto positions (f2.8 and f5.6) instead of the single one (f4) of the HX14, and a P-full as well. Should be possible to get a second hand one over the net at a fair price.
If you really need to toast your subjects, then Nikon compatible flashes will do. The pinout of the flash-ready signal corresponds to that of the Hexar.
In any case, in P-Mode of the Hexar with flashes other than the HX14, you'll need to be able to tell the Hexar what the GN of the flash is. That's because the Hexar does the Aperture=GN/distance calculation for you (flashmatic) if the flash is strobed at full power. Of course, you can/should dial in different values if you either strobe the flash at half or quarter power or if you want to over/underexpose.
If you have a Silver Hexar, setting the GN is possible by default. If you've got a black one, check out the Hexar article on photo.net, where the reprogramming procedure is explained.
The nice point about flashmatic is that it's not confused by subject reflectivity, and also not by whether or not there's ambient light. It works both for fill as well as for a flash only exposure.
