Konica Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400 II - still a good choice?

First of all, I'm firmly placed in the digital camp for 75% of what I do. Film has been a side thing for me, but I enjoy it when I find the time.

I used to have a Nikon Coolscan V which was OK, but these are hard to find these days. I was wondering about the Konica Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400 II. Is this comparable to the Coolscan LS-50/V which I used to have? And does it still work with Vuescan?

Any noticable differences I have to be aware of?

Minolta is the best 35mm scanner ever produced. Better dynamic range and resolution. Hard to find though. I have Coolscan V but would love to buy Minolta and keep Nikon as a backup scanner.

Yes it is supported by Vuescan

I have the first version, and use it regularly with vuescan running osx mountain lion.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again, and if I ever find one at a good price, would buy one as a backup. (Unless the new plustek is very impressive for 35mm black and white film as the dimage 5400 is.

I have the earlier 5400 and also use it regulary with silverfast running on Mac Snow Leopard and have found it to be an excellent scanner. Far better D max than the microtek models you can buy new . It's very sharp - I can produce sharper 16" prints with than I can with medium format and an old epson flatbed with film adapter.
