Konica S2 Why not?

The dealbreaker

The dealbreaker

Which Electro 35 camera has a real exposure meter?
The indicator light system simplifies operation for snapshooters
not concerned with exposure details,
but it doesn't give enough information for serious amateurs...

True and if your eyes can tell the diference in a print then I am impressed;) I just meant in that range actually and the S3 is IMHO better than the Electro. From my standpoint Konicas hold up better than Yashicas.

:D i guess u're right. it should be hardly noticeable! this brings me to my question, which do you think is better?

Konica Auto S3 vs Minolta Hi-Matic 7s II vs Yashica Electro GX vs Olympus 35RD

am planning to get either one.

I can't imagine any discernable difference between them.

I have the Konica and Olympus don't have other two yet but plan on buying. If it was me I would buy S3. Solid camera with looks to kill.

Unless you can get real lucky and "steal" one somewhere (Goodwill, yard sale, etc.) the S3 is too expensive IMHO. They are rare in the USA and I've never seen one in Korea--believe me, I've looked. The RD is not common, but the others are more numerous.

p.s. recently I located a CLA'd black S3 at a repair guy's shop in the USA for around $220!!!!!!!!!!

..... it's expensive! those listing on ebay normally goes from USD150 to about USD300! After exchange rate conversion plus shipping it is expensive to me!

I have a roll of Fuji SS 100 b&w in my Konica S2 at the moment. It's just back from a quick trip to Greyhoundman. The shutter ring turns now without complaint and the viewfinder is clear. I'm looking forward to the results. I only put one roll of film through this before, slide film, and the auto exposure was good.

I have the same dilemma. Don't forget the Vivitar ES and Revue 400ES. So far I've been able to pick up the Vivitar and Konica from ebay at decent prices (65-75 shipped). I'm testing the Viv, the Konica isn't here yet. I've heard a lot about how sharp the Viv lens are, etc. but when I saw some pics others here have posted from the Konica, I noticed it seems to produce a rich 3D kind of image that reminded me of my 55mm 1.8 Fujinon screw mount (which I love). Hopefully when mine arrives it will be fully working and a fine performer.

I'd like to get my hands on the Minolta for full manual control, but no luck with the prices yet. I've pretty much given up on the Yashica GX for being too hard to find and the RD for the problems that come with them (cleaning).

The Konica S2 is, indeed, a wonderful camera. While it's larger than some of the fixed lens rangefinders that came later in the 1960s and 1970s (it's about the same size as a Canon 7, but not as heavy), it has a lens and viewfinder that are unsurpassed in this category of cameras, IMHO (possible exception: Hexar AF). Build quality is also excellent. Here are some recent pix:

It seems I've used and owned mroe Konicas than anything else over the lats 30 years. Between three Konicas mentioned here that I've actually owned (Auto S2, Hexar autofocus, and Auto S3, the latter of which I still have), the S3 has been the most fun, by a nose (compared to the Hex AF, which had its own charms). The S2's lens was hell-for-sharp, but the S3's compactness is hard to ignore (for me, anyway). As a matter of comparison, my old S2 seemed to subjectively weigh more than one of my Hexar RFs with the 50mm f/2 mounted. Of course, with S2s going for a tiny fraction of what HRFs (Or HAFs, for that matter) fetch, they're a screaming bargain.
