Hello from France,

I have been searching for a Koniflex during years, and finally found two last june. Ha ha.
I used it on Atlantic coast in France (where I live) during summer and I went to Lisbon, Portugal with it at the end of august.

I love using it so far, and I just began to develop my first rolls.
I really enjoy the results from the Konishiroku Hexanon 85/3.5 lens :
it is a good standard lens, quite sharp, with a distinctive bokeh.

I hope some of you will appreciate the thread. 😉

Many remind me of the style of Edouard Boubat, particularly the stance of the subject in your portraits, and especially in the superb photo above. Such natural elegance and charm. Beautiful!

There are three Koniflex cameras listed on eBay presently. One fixer upper and two (from the same seller) priced around the $600 mark. All in Japan. Attractive looking TLRs, I would expect theHexanon lens to be a good one.

Of course I love Boubat, and the pictures he made with Lella in Brittany. This is where I live.

When I am on a famous location, I always wonder how to photograph it in a different way.
This is why a tourist is a tourist : he does not want to act as another tourist.
I am not sure I am very clear here, ha ha.

Lovely work, Nicolas! I follow you on flickr and Instagram (Angelique, too!), but hadn't appreciated that your recent Lisbon photos were taken with a Koniflex. Very nice camera, but it's the photographer who makes the magic happen.

Yeah, I like your pictures too. I have two cheaper Japanese TLR cameras; the Ricoh Diacord G(s) which look like they have many similar parts as yours. Both of mine have surprising lenses, but then they are the same model. And actually they are easier to focus (ergonomically)(but the focusing screens aren't as good) than my Rollieflex.

I love to use flash with mine, and I plow through rolls of Arista film with them.

I'm getting what you mean re. the photographers not wanting to be the average tourists, although being tourists nonetheless.

This might be the main source of a dilemma of some sort we always have to face when traveling (and preparing ourselves for travel).

Thus, sometimes (if not most of the times), taking one camera only (even with a fixed lens) and a large bunch of film works super. In any case, it works better than taking too much gear and not film enough.

When I went to Barcelona I took my Rollei 35 and lots of B&W film in my jacket pockets, and nothing else. And I had no regrets about some gear I had left at home once arrived on location. There is a trip to Amsterdam scheduled on next February ; I will probably buy myself the same policy...
