I went to Sherry Krauter's site to look at lenses, and saw they use a numbered rating system. I'm used to KEH's rating system, and the great description they provide, which Krauter lacks. I e-mailed the site and the reply was that the ratings were 1 to 10, with 10 being new/perfect (great, that helps). To me that scale is too long (Hey! Sounds like our gallery! ahem). Anyway, has anyone purchased from SK, and can they relate their experience with the ratings and the product quality? TIA

🙂

i bought a lens from her.
it was marked a 7.

the good...
great focus, smooth like butter

the bad...
it would not accept a filter as the threads were all shot
many cleaning marks
looked like it had been through a war
focus mark was painted on

in all fairness, the cost was cheap and they offered a refund minus shipping.
i kept it and then sold it at the same price i paid, with full disclosure.

but there was no way in hell any sighted person would have rated that lens a 7 of 10.

so a 1 means it was dragged behind a truck for 2 miles and is missing essential pieces?

Exactly my point! Maybe a 2 means it was dragged for only one mile. And based on Joe's feedback anything a 5 and below must truly be just varying/declining degrees of unusable. hmmm. That 7 sounds like KEH's bargain, or ugly.

I think that would be KEH's ugly
their bargain lens have very nice glass

I have no personal experince but I bet 6 or 7 is as low as the ratings go. In the UK ratings go from mint to exc ++ to exc+ to exc . Exc. (excellent or excrement?) kit looks like it was used by someone with hammers for hands.
