Anyone going to Kuwait ? Hope you've already seen this news.
Ban on anything... in the middle-east... who would have expected that?
Anyway I thought the news would be useful for anyone planning a trip to Kuwait.

How do they define 'journalist'?
J-visa? What?

So TLRs (twin, not single lenses), RF (non-SLR), Scale focus, film SLR (non-digital), and digital non-SLR cameras are still OK? There must be an RF admin or moderator working somewhere in the Kuwaiti government.

Have to carry a press card or pass all the time, I am guessing.
Wonder how intelligent lawmakers miss out on things like there are better or equally capable cameras than DSLRs?

A commenter on Slashdot noted that a ban on DSLRs for non-journalists obviously makes it a little easier for the gov't (and others) to identify journalists, should that come in handy.

Dear Arun,
Exactly. Issued by whom?
Um... intelligent... and lawmakers...
They'd soon be outvoted by the other kind.

You know what's more funny?
There are cameras with 20x zooms that's not a DSLR... that's cheaper than a DSLR... that's something terrorists will most likely use.
Wait, is this story real? I really have a hunch that it's a joke... I mean... c'mon what kind of country thinks this way?

Compared to Saudi Arabia every other country in the world is moderate, even Iran. So how are the laws in Saudi Arabia regarding photography?

I was wondering the same thing. Although stranger things have been passed by many countries laws, this sounds a little strange. Why not all cameras indeed!?

A very fair point. We can all be deceived by nonsense. But equally, nonsense does get passed into law.

So far everyone is assuming that the local law enforcement knows the difference between a film camera and a digital camera. Or between a TLR, SLR, RF, 4/3rd, etc. It is probably safe to assume that if looks like it can take a picture your in trouble.
