These are actually one of my favorites too. I prefer this model to the more famous P and to the various versions with the base mounted winding trigger.
(I always wondered why on earth Canon did not provide both a normal framewinder on the top as well as a base mounted one on each camera in that era - that almost might have been a Leica killer! it sure would have sealed the deal for me.)

Frankly, all those Canons you mentioned are "Leica killers" for me.

Floyd--The external VF is the way to go. After focusing, you look thru it and It's like looking thru a big screen TV at your subject. The CV VFs are awesome for the money, but you better secure it to the strap split ring w/ a cord (or some other jerry-rigged device) or you're sure gonna lose it--I did I'm sorry to say.
