Someone here correctly mentioned that the L1, VI-T/L VFs are eyeglass killers and he is right. Determined to fix the problem after I spent $150 on new Nikon eyeglass lens, I got a round/ donut shaped, metric-size, black, hard rubber gasket/washer for a flexible, bathroom sink water supply line here, put over/ around the factory, metal-rimmed VF eyepiece and Voila! it works fine. I glued it to the camera body in four spots w/ a little Korean Pliobond copy (maybe foam tape would be better, but I can't find here) . It measures approx. 3mm high (high/thick enough to protect the eyeglass lens), it's a little smaller than the O.D. of the eyepiece, but it stretches ever-so-slightly to fit, and has a small enough O.D. to clear the little wheel. It doesn't even look bad and they are dreadfully cheap. Am I happy? Yep!

If you want one, send me your postal address by PM and I'll send a couple free. RFF members have helped me countless times and it's a way to repay my gratitude.

Update: The Korean Pliobond was s___ and didn't bond to the gasket/ washer. 'Had to use Loctite 4011.

Photos please. I would love to see the fix.

I could send a photo, but I think it would be difficult to see the detail. Imagine a flat donut fitting snugly around the VF eyepiece and flush w/ the body. That's all there is to it. It protrudes very slightly above the top of the body.
