This is the title of a recent film by the italian director Paolo Sorrentino.
Very enjoyable vision, in my opinion. Reminds vaguely Fellini, but with a more Kubrick like sense of beauty. I think the English title is "The Great Beauty".
I have been reflecting about what is the main driving force behind my interest in photography, and the conclusion was, that seeking beauty was the prime factor. This has brought me to sift through some passages of this film in search of quotes, that would echo this feeling. This is what I have found:
"
- Why haven't you ever written another book (Jep) ?
- (Jep) I was looking for the great beauty, but... I haven't found it."

I think, that the only way. in which you can find the great beauty, is by searching - this is why I continue to photograph...

And to leave the topic on a lighter note, I translate another line of Jep Gambardella:

" The most robust discovery I have made a few days after my 65th birthday, is that I cannot waste time anymore, doing things I do not feel like doing. "

I suggest to substitute the number 65 with your present age, and adhere to the idea :D.

Marek!

When you sent me two prints from the paper exchange project, you wrote a similar sentence about photographing beauty. That sentence stuck in my thoughts, it was a completely new aspect of photography to me. Until then I was only thinking in terms of documentary and reality and truth, but never of beauty for it´s own sake when I worked on photography. You changed my mind, at least for a little bit, made my world richer. Thanks!

You are too kind. In fact, the greatest photographers managed to combine truth and beauty in an act of grace. HCB has been the most prominent example, but also many others, think the Afgan girl portrait by Mc Curry...
The lookout for beauty goes on...
