Hello all,
Are there any other RFFers from Lebanon out there? I'm increasingly disappointed with the poor processing and even worse scanning I'm getting here in Beirut, and I wonder if anyone has recommendations for good labs.
So far, it looks like the best approach is to stuff my shot rolls in the freezer and wait for a trip to the U.S. ...
Cheers!

Hi,
sorry, I can't help with labs in Lebanon.
But I can suggest a much better option than taking your films only on trips to the U.S.
Just use one of the excellnt labs in Europe which are doing mail order and international shipping.
I can highly recommend Photostudio 13 in Germany:
www.photostudio13.de
They are making all you want: E6, BW reversal (Scala), C41, BW film development; RA-4 prints (scanned or optical, as you like it), Ilfochrome, BW prints, display materials and so on.
All you need or want as a photographer.
Cheers, Jan

You are asking about developing film in a country where the state of the economy is a wreck and you have a civil war going on in the north?

Because it isn't easy to import the relevant goods, never mind the added costs to be paid, insurance etc. etc. in a country like Lebanon?
He might have better luck in Israel though, assuming the overzealous airport security doesn't destroy the film first.

Thanks for the suggestions, everybody! This more or less confirms what I expected. The trouble with shipping things anywhere (Israel is definitely out of the question) is that the cost is outrageous, and the likelihood that I would ever get my scans, let alone the negatives, back, is pretty slim. The postal system is privatized but awful. Customs is arbitrary and capricious (a friend of mine was asked to pay $200 customs for a $20 T-shirt!).
The lab I used to use says Fuji will no longer fill business orders here, so store owners are placing them personally. There just aren't many film shooters left around here.
I guess it's back to square one: getting more involved with the I'm East Beirut arts scene.
I'll start a thread a post some recent shots.

Hi Mark,
Thanks a lot, this is extremely helpful! Some of those stores on the list just sell film, but there are lots of names I don't recognize, so I'm going to have to get on the horn to find out.
