Landscapes in Quebec and Newfoundland (island)

My girlfriend and I are planning a spring or summer road trip to eastern Canada, to spend about a week in Newfoundland to take photos. What are some interesting locations landscape-wise for photographing? I've seen several photos of the Atlantic coast there and they look very photogenic (especially when photographed from the water)

I loved the north east coast of Newfoundland the best.

I have a family friend who has a non-profit organization based out of Labrador. They gave me a photo book that they put together from the area and it was BEAUTIFUL. Many small fishing villages to visit, as well as seaside landscapes, etc. Very picturesque.

Bring some high speed film and get some shots of the drunks as they stumble around George Street in St. Johns ;-)
Make sure to get Screeched in like a good tourist, too!
The city itself is rather pretty- lots of your bright, multicolored buildings and east coast flair. Cape Spear is a must-visit, imo.

Are you set on NFLD? I think Nova Scotia would be a much better bet. You still have the "typical" East Coast fishing villages and maritime culture, but there are numerous old forts, extremely old graveyards, Acadian landmarks and a lot more than a weeks worth of shooting.

I would go mid June or later to Newfie. You can consult the Newfoundland/labrador official tourist site for trip possibilities. You might want to pencil in more than one week or plan on returning. There is just so much to explore. The best part of Newfoundland is the people, you would be hard pressed to find a finer bunch. Just a great place to visit. If you want to try taking the trip around the Gaspe in Quebec you won't be disappointrd either in the scenery or people. We did the trip this spring and were a bit early going mid May into June. We plan to back.

Landscape wise NFDL is the better bet. The Cros Morne Park is fantastic. One week is probably not enough. Cape Breton (Nova Scotia) is also very beautiful in the summer and probably better if you have only one week. The so called Cabot Trail is one of most beautiful roads you will ever encounter.

A heads up about the rest of Nova Scotia, though. Maritimers will probably not agree, but don't go before July. Spring in the Maritimes starts usually mid-end June. Before that you might enounter cold and rainy weather, boring grey landscapes without leaves and closed tourist attractions (especially in the Annapolis Valley where those Forts, Acadian landmarks and graveyards are). I lived 10 years in Annapolis Royal and photographed it from every possible angle 🙂
Mainland Nova Scotia is best visited in August and September.
